What is the Aenergy 18?
Weighing a mere 380g, the Aenergy 18 is a lightweight backpack that offers 18 litres of storage for fast-paced, done-in-a-day activities. It's the perfect accessory for fast-hiking where you need maximum function with minimum weight and bulk, yet works well as an everyday pack, whether commuting to work or heading to the gym.
What is it made of?
The main material used to construct the Aenergy is partially recycled polyamide. It offers exceptional durability and can easily resist bumps and scrapes on rugged terrain or from daily use, while lightweight and low bulk, making it more practical and easier to carry.
The material is treated with PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) to encourage water from showers or light snow to bead off instead of soaking in. However, please be aware this doesn't make it waterproof, so if the forecast is looking a little heavier you may need to pack the appropriate rain cover for extra protection!
Mammut also works with FairWear to ensure safe, ethical working conditions in their factories, helping to protect workers' rights and being considerate and sustainable with their processes.
Which backsystem does it use?
This pack uses Mammut's Contact suspension system to provide comfort and support when the bag is mounted. The backsystem offers good ventilation and helps to spread the load evenly while protecting your back from items in your rucksack jabbing in as you move. Padding in the backpanel is kept to a minimum to keep the bulk low without compromising comfort. The entire system is supported with breathable, wide, ergonomic shoulder straps designed to relieve pressure and strain when being carried for extended periods.
What are its features?
This pack holds around 18 litres of storage and has multiple options to help you keep your kit organised.
It has a roll-top closure which combines increased volume (from 18 to 20 litres) with improved weather resistance, as once rolled, it's harder for rainwater to seep through the opening.
There are two soft flask holders to help keep liquids out away from the rest of your belongings in case of leaks and spillages. A large mesh outer pocket and two drop-in chest pockets mean you can separate larger and smaller belongings to make them easier to access later on, whether an extra shell layer or some energy gels to keep you fuelled.
The pack is hydration compatible, meaning you can hook up a water reservoir if you'd rather use one over the usual water bottles and soft flasks.
An emergency whistle is built into the design for safety, while finally, subtle reflective detailing gives you extra visibility in poor conditions or for adventures after dark.
