What is the Downburst 26?
The Downburst 26 is a 26-litre, 100% waterproof backpack, perfect for done-in-a-day hikes, hill walks and general outdoor adventures. It features a versatile, unique design that prioritises weatherproof protection, comfort, and support.
What is it made of?
Main: The main body of the pack uses bluesign® approved, 100% recycled 210D nylon with high-tenacity double ripstop reinforcement. This material is incredibly durable and can withstand beatings and abrasion in challenging terrain. It's coated with a TPU laminate, making it waterproof without a membrane.
Base: bluesign® approved, 100% recycled 420D nylon at the base of the pack increases longevity and wear resistance. The base is treated with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent) to amplify the protective properties of the backpack with lesser environmental impact.
Lining: The Downburst is lined with the same material as the base, making for an extra rugged pack that prioritises robustness and protection.
bluesign® approval means the product/material is manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
What back system does it use?
The Downburst features an Airspeed suspension system to enhance the pack's fit whilst delivering ample comfort and ventilation, meaning it will also dry out quicker after being caught in a downpour.
An injection moulded ladder adjustment system accommodates different torso lengths and sizes without requiring multiple sizes per gender. This adjuster is quick and easy to use and stays in place securely once fastened for minimum hassle.
The water-resistant TPU mesh on the harness sheds moisture quickly to help keep contact points dry and comfy.
What are its features?
A stiffened, roll-top closure provides quick, efficient access to the main compartment. Roll the top three times before buckling for maximum weather resistance around the opening.
This backpack has an IPX5-rated waterproof main compartment with a further RF-welded construction for ultimate all-round protection against the elements. Welding ensures that water doesn't seep through any seams in the pack; furthermore, an IPX-5 rating is substantial for adventuring in wet weather.
An internal zipped mesh pocket works well for small valuables. It has a built-in key clip that allows you to securely attach house or car keys, providing reassurance they won't fall out or be dropped when you're out and about.
The external hydration reservoir sleeve and centre pass-through port provide capabilities for hooking up a hydration bladder if you seek hands-free, on-the-go hydration. Alternatively, there are dual-access side bottle pockets for water bottles that keep them secure and within reach at all times.
Dual upper and lower side compression straps cinch in any dead space when the backpack isn't fully loaded. Plus, a rugged, gusseted front compression pocket manages overloads; it doubles up nicely as room for shells and insulative layers, keeping them accessible if you suddenly need them.
Dual, zipped hip belt pockets are ideal for stowing snacks and energy gels, keeping them in reach when you're a little peckish.
There are ice axe/trekking pole loops with bungee tie-offs, providing external storage for bulkier and sharper items that you don't want inside your backpack. Additionally, Osprey has added a Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole carry system to keep poles more secure and out of the way during your activities.
Finally, a built-in whistle on the sternum strap is handy for emergencies, should you ever need it.
