What is the Talon Velocity 20?
The Talon Velocity 20 is a 20-litre backpack for fast-paced, lightweight adventures. It's the ideal pack for done-in-a-day Munro-bagging and fast-hiking or those seeking a lighter, more flexible backpack for regular adventures.
What is it made of?
Main: The Talon Velocity comprises bluesign® approved, 100% recycled 100Dx210D high-tenacity nylon in the main body. This material provides exceptional abrasion resistance and durability for adventures in rugged terrain. The material is treated with a PFAS-free DWR to provide water repellence with lesser environmental damage by avoiding the use of toxic forever chemicals. Please note that this DWR does not make the bag 100% waterproof.
Base: The base of the pack is reinforced with bluesign® approved, 100% recycled 420D nylon, treated with a PFAS-free DWR, which again provides a fantastic level of durability to survive years of bumps and scrapes on jagged or rocky terrain.
Lining: The pack is lined with a lighter, bluesign® approved, 100% recycled 70D nylon to help reduce weight and bulk without compromising protection. Even the lining of this pack is treated with a PFAS-free DWR to maximise water repellence, whether from unpredictable showers or drink spills.
bluesign® approval means the product/material is manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
What back system does it use?
The Talon Velocity features a lightweight, flexible AirScape back panel and a running vest-inspired harness to reduce weight without compromising comfort and support.
The back panel is designed to prioritise freedom of movement, making it the perfect bag for dynamic activities like scrambling. Built with mesh-covered EVA foam and laid on an Atilon framesheet, it wraps around the body to transfer dynamic load effectively. The mesh covering also allows ample breathability to avoid sweat build-up around contact points.
An adjustable yoke offers four inches of back-length customisation to accommodate different body shapes and heights.
The running-inspired BioStretch harness and padded hip belt are both flexible and stable, constructed with Spacermesh over die-cut foam to create breathable contact points. BioStretch seams can actually be stretched, unlike regular stitching, amplifying the nimble nature of the pack to provide the utmost comfort.
Two elasticated sternum straps feature cam-lock adjustable sliders for further adjustability and customisation.
Osprey has also built a Crossbody ErgoPull system into the hip belt. This pulls the lumbar into the body for improved weight distribution, helping to prevent back aches or pains when carrying the pack for extended periods.
What are its features?
The main entry point is secured with a top cinch closure, which doubles up as top compression for added stability.
500ml, soft-flask compatible pockets on the harness make room for lightweight hydration solutions whilst keeping them within reach. Each pocket also has a stabilisation loop to prevent flasks from rattling around.
A large zipped phone pocket does exactly what it says on the tin, whilst the small stash pocket works perfectly for essentials such as keys or cash.
Dual-access, stretch side pockets are great for carrying water bottles. Alternatively, there's an external hydration sleeve for water bladders if you prefer something less bulky.
Dual SR-buckled side compression straps allow for external attachment to increase the storage capacity.
Dual, low-profile pole/axe attachments and stow-on-the-go pole holders also provide storage for bulkier bits of gear, making the pack more suitable for various activities.
The stretch, mesh front shove-it pocket works perfectly for stowing away maps or waterproofs. This pocket is surprisingly large and can even hold a helmet!
Elastic web-keepers on all webbing straps keep the pack looking nice and tidy. There's also a little emergency whistle built into the sternum strap, should you need to call for help in worst-case scenarios.
The Talon Velocity 20 also features one zipped and one open, stretchy mesh hip belt pocket, ideal for keeping small essentials like snacks and energy gels handy.
