What is the Firn 18?
It's a durable, lightweight, race-style backpack designed for fast-paced ascents and steep missions. The Firn 18 works perfectly for experienced athletes and enthusiasts who value quality, lightweight equipment.
What is it made of?
The main body and base of the backpack use 210D nylon, which is incredibly durable and abrasion-resistant. The main body is coated with a bluesign® approved carbonate for additional longevity and enhanced performance.
Inside, it is lined with 70D nylon to create a long-lasting interior with a smooth finish.
All materials used to construct this bag are 100% recycled, which helps to lower its environmental impact by keeping useable materials in the loop and bluesign® approved.
The bluesign® certification means that the material is manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
All materials are also finished with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent) for additional weather protection, although please note that this does not make the material 100% waterproof.
Using a PFAS-free DWR also eliminates the use of harmful 'forever chemicals', which are known for polluting waterways and causing lasting damage to our ecosystems.
What backsystem does it use?
An atilon foam backpanel delivers ample structure and is padded out with ridge EVA foam to enhance comfort, and covered with snow-shedding stretch woven material.
The HDPE framesheet with HDPE single-stay delivers support and stiffness where it's needed most, helping this pack retain its shape. You can easily remove the framesheet if you want less weight and stiffness for particular activities.
A vest-style harness, sternum strap, and pocketed shoulder straps with perforated EVA padding and snow-shedding woven material offer optimum comfort and stability for fast-paced adventures.
This backpack also comes with padded hipwings and an Ergo Pull 25mm webbing belt that helps to keep the pack close and prevents it from swinging as you move.
What are its features?
A whistle on the sternum strap allows you to call for help in worst-case scenarios. It also comes in handy for annoying your campmates in the morning.
Front panel access makes it easy to access the contents of your backpack. For extra organisation, you get a top goggles pocket, a phone/GPS pocket, a front panel avalanche tool pocket, and an on-body, accessible skin/crampon pocket, ideal for more technical or wintry adventures.
As mentioned, the harness also has additional pockets for small essentials like energy gels and snacks.
An innovative ski lasso, a reinforced ski-loop with a garage, and dual axe/pole attachments accommodate extra gear when needed, keeping everything neatly tucked and out of your way.
The top compression strap reduces the volume and compresses your load; this strap doubles as an axe stabiliser for safely carrying an ice axe on the backpack.
