What is the Stratosphere Pillow?
It's a comfortable, supportive inflatable camping pillow that is lightweight and compressible enough to easily pack into a trekking backpack or kit bag. The Stratosphere is insulated to keep you warm during cooler seasons, yet will quickly wick away moisture on milder nights to keep you comfy, whatever the weather.
What is it made from?
The upper of the pillow is made with 50D stretch polyester that feels soft, smooth and comfortable against your face. The rest of the outer is made with 30D recycled polyester tricot, which is soft to the touch and almost feels fluffy in a very unfluffy way... more like a thin, light, fleecy texture. Rab used this material as it helps grip onto your sleeping mat, preventing it from sliding all over in the middle of the night.
Stratus™ R insulation is placed on the upper pillow to maintain warmth without adding unnecessary weight or bulk. Stratus™ R is a high-performance synthetic insulation made of 100% recycled fibres, including post-consumer materials. Developed by Rab, this insulation helps to reduce the product's carbon footprint by minimising waste and energy consumption and keeping valuable materials out of landfill. It has a high warmth-to-weight ratio and retains warmth when wet (unlike down insulation). Stratus™ R dries quickly and helps to wick away moisture so that you won't be waking up in the morning with the pillow stuck to your face.
What are the features?
The Stratosphere has a lightweight, inflatable construction that can be blown up to suit your personal preferences, offering maximum comfort to get a good night's rest. The scalloped shaping helps to support the neck and shoulders, whatever your sleeping position - personally, as a wriggly side sleeper, I found this pillow super comfy to try out compared to standard, unshaped camping pillows. The dip in the middle gives it a more secure feel, and the fabric on the lower sections helped to keep it in place as I moved around.
It has a low profile, two-way valve that makes it simple to inflate and deflate and helps to prevent air from escaping inconveniently.
The outer cover can be removed from the inner bag for washing, and in terms of storage, the Stratosphere comes with a handy little stuffsack to keep it safe and clean when not in use.
