What is the FreeLite 3-Person Ultralight Backpacking Tent?
It's a lightweight, semi-freestanding tent designed to accommodate three people for backpacking, multi-day trekking and wild or woodland camping. The FreeLite provides great durability and reliability in various conditions and is suitable for three seasons.
What is it made of?
Fly: The fly is made from 15D ripstop nylon Durashield™ which is fully waterproof and has a hydrostatic head rating of 1200mm. Though thin and lightweight, this material offers reliable protection and durability to withstand different weather and landscapes.
Floor: Also made with 15D ripstop nylon Durashield™, the tent floor is lightweight yet doesn't compromise quality. It's also coated with DWR (durable water repellent) to reinforce the waterproof protection for setting up camp on wet grass and damp ground.
Mesh: The mesh inner is constructed using 10D polyester micro-mesh, which is incredibly packable and handy for helping to keep creepy crawlies at bay. It's effective in drawing in airflow to keep your tent ventilated and well-aired during the summer and to help reduce condensation on fresh spring and autumn mornings.
Poles: DAC NFL tent poles keep this lovely shelter upright. They're incredibly strong and are made of lightweight aluminium to ensure they don't add a heavy load to your trekking pack.
How is it constructed?
To set up the FreeLite tent, spread out the main interior body and pin down the corners with the pegs - you can add a footprint (sold separately) underneath for extra protection at this stage if you wish. Follow up with assembling the poles, which should connect easily, and insert the tips accordingly into the grommets to match the layout. Clip the tent body to the poles. lay the shorter ridge pole on the top, attach the two clips, and insert the pole's ends into the grommets on the top of the tent body.
Next, you can lay the fly sheet on top, align the vestibules with the tent doors and attach the stake loops to each corner pole. The rainfly also has a midpoint grommet that will connect to the ridge pole, and small velcro loops to fasten around the poles to keep the material in place. Finally, you can adjust the flysheet and vestibules using the strings to keep the fabric taught and improve weather resistance.
What are its features?
The rectangular floorplan has two large side-entry vestibules, allowing you to store gear without occupying valuable room. Interior pockets and overhead gear lofts also give you the option to keep essentials closer to hand while minimising clutter and keeping your sleeping space tidy.
Pockets are tech-friendly. What does this mean? They all have handy cable ports, allowing you to keep on top of your cable management outside of the office.
The symmetrical shape and unified hub-and-pole system make the setup process quick and easy, meaning if the heavens are pouring, you'll be spending less time faffing around to put your shelter up so you can get dried off inside.
With MSR, it's all in the details! The FreeLite tent has strategically placed, reinforced patches, stitching at each guy point and locking anodised stake loop grommets to increase strength for heavy use and harsher weather conditions.
As you probably already guessed, MSR designed the FreeLite 3-Person to house three people. However, it also provides great shelter for two seeking extra space.
