What is the Helm Compact 1?
It's a durable freestanding tent designed for one-person and three-season use, whether backpacking, thru-hiking, multi-day trekking, wild camping, or simply pitching up at your favourite summer campsite. As the winner of Trail Magazine's Gear of the Year Award, the Helm Compact 1 is as convenient and reliable as it gets for solo adventures.
What is it made of?
Flysheet: Fly: The flysheet is constructed with Wild Country's very own Stormtex P4000 material, developed to provide the best performance for the conditions these tents are intended to face. Stormtex P4000 comprises polyester with a PU/DWR (durable water repellent) to enhance water resistance without adding excessive weight. Internal taping provides a fully waterproof seam that prevents rain from leaking through the stitching. The fabric has also been tested to the CPAI84 standard, making it fire resistant.
Floor: Aqua Stop P5000 at the tent's base provides exceptional durability underfoot and maintains high water resistance to protect you from wet ground. Wild Country developed the material using polyester yarn.
Poles: Superflex Alloy poles provide fantastic stability without excessive weight and bulk and are super easy to set up, minimising the pitching process without compromise.
The total weight of the tent is 1.99kg, and for those counting every gram of weight on longer excursions, you can strip down some features to give you an absolute basic shelter, reducing the weight to 1.74kg.
What features does it have?
Entry: One main door with a generous porch area provides easy access and extra shelter from the rain, meaning you could leave your door open a smidge if you're cooking breakfast in the morning without getting everything soaked.
Space: The Helm Compact 1 provides enough room for one person and is just under a metre tall when pitched correctly, giving you plenty of space to sit upright.
Storage: The porch area gives you a protected place to leave your boots and even a backpack without getting the inside of your tent dirty. A rear storage area underneath the flysheet can also be accessed from the inner, giving you extra organisation for small essentials you want to keep close by.
Guylines, attachments and pegs: Yellow reflective guylines allow you to see the tent in the dark and when visibility is poor. Alloy V-angle pegs keep your tent on the ground and are light, solid and easy to use.
Optional extras: You can purchase a tent footprint separately to help increase the tent's longevity by reinforcing the base, protecting it further from rocks and rugged terrain where it's at a higher risk of tearing or snagging when laid on the ground.
