What is the Frontier Jacket?
It's an updated version of a classic M.E softshell jacket. It provides complete abrasion resistance and wind protection for enhanced warmth and is durable enough for mountaineering, ski touring, hiking, or regular use closer to home.
What is it made of?
This jacket is constructed with M.E's Exolite 210 and treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent).
Exolite is a durable, double-weave softshell made with polyamide and elastane. Lab-tested and field-tested, Exolite is proven to be incredibly durable, completely windproof and worthy of wear in any season.
The fluorocarbon-free DWR encourages light rain and snow to bead off the material instead of soaking in, delivering light weather resistance and helping to maintain breathability without using harmful 'forever chemicals'.
Fluorocarbons, also known as PFCs, are chemical compounds initially used in DWRs. These compounds can't break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. Fluorocarbons are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a greener manufacturing process.
What are the features?
This jacket has a fully adjustable mountain hood, which is helmet-compatible, making it ideal for climbing and mountaineering. The hood is topstitched and has a rollaway tab, allowing you to keep it tidy when not being worn.
An overlocked, topstitched construction minimises rubbing and chafing to increase comfort for long, arduous missions.
The moulded centre front zip provides easy access and allows you to ventilate the jacket when working hard.
For storage, it comes with two hand pockets and one chest pocket for small essentials. You also get an internal security pocket for more valuable items, such as a mobile phone or a GPS device.
Adjustable cuffs and dual tether hem drawcords allow you to cinch in the fabric to minimise gaping, sealing in the heat and making it easier to layer a shell jacket over the top.
Lastly, this jacket is designed with an Alpine Fit, which sits closer to the body and has articulated, pre-shaped sleeves for enhanced freedom of movement.
