What are the Taiss SO Pants?
These are durable softshell trousers ideal for various mountain activities during any season, including alpine climbing, mountaineering and ice climbing. They provide excellent wind repellency and breathability to help keep you comfortable when reaching for the summit.
What are they made of?
These pants are made from a double-weave blend of nylon (polyamide) and spandex softshell with Mammut SOFTech™, Polygiene® Stay Fresh and a PFC-free DWR. It's robust enough to resist abrasion from rock and rough surfaces, yet provides stretch to improve freedom of movement for steep inclines and technical climbing manoeuvres.
Mammut's SOFTech™ combines the second and third clothing layers to offer improved protection in varied weather conditions. Again, these materials are abrasion-resistant, stretchy and breathable to promote better temperature regulation.
Polygiene® Stay Fresh is added to the material to help it stay fresher and odour-free for longer, perfect for multi-day trips where you'll be lacking facilities and need to pack as little weight as possible.
The PFC-free water repellent encourages light rain and snow to bead off the fabric. However, please note that this doesn't make the trousers fully waterproof.
PFC-free treatments don't use per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals, also making them much more eco-friendly.
What are their features?
The waistband is adjustable and can be adjusted from the outside, allowing you to quickly and easily adapt the fit around your layering system when you're in the mountains. The fly is concealed for added weather resistance and has a snap button closure that is easy to use, even with cold fingers.
For storage, there are two backpack and climbing harness compatible zipper pockets, ideal for carrying snacks and energy gels that you might want to grab quickly in the middle of an ascent. Additionally, a leg zipper pocket would be better for bulkier essentials that you want to keep close but don't want to impede your movement.
The hem is asymmetrically shaped to optimise the fit around big mountaineering boots and has a built-in drawstring to get it just right. Tucked away is a stowable attachment hook that gives you extra security when attaching the hem to your mountaineering boots, helping to keep the weather out.
