What are the Nano Air Light Bottoms?
They're insulated trousers designed to keep you warm and comfortable during winter, whether camping or adventuring in cold climates.
What are they made of?
The outer shell and lining are made with 100% recycled polyester shadow stretch ripstop, which is abrasion-resistant, lightweight and breathable. It's also finished with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages light rain and snow to bead away.
PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), used to add water repellent to textiles, aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
The Nano Air® Light Bottoms are insulated with FullRange® 100% polyester insulation, which is a synthetic insulation that stays warm when wet and is also animal-free. FullRange® insulation delivers outstanding mechanical stretch and air permeability, allowing excess heat to move away from the body and helping prevent moisture buildup inside the trousers without compromising freedom of movement.
The waistband is constructed using NetPlus® postconsumer recycled nylon with added spandex Technostretch knit for enhanced freedom of movement. NetPlus® is Bureo's signature material. It's made from postconsumer recycled fishing nets, meaning it helps reduce one of the most harmful forms of ocean plastic pollution while still empowering fishing communities worldwide. The material is fully traceable and created in partnership with fishermen and women to provide a more circular solution for end-of-life nets, reducing the amount of plastic entering the ocean and making the most of what is otherwise an incredibly precious resource and usable material.
The band is treated with miDori™ bioSoft for enhanced moisture-wicking performance and freshness. miDori™ textile finishes are sourced from renewable, natural raw materials and use plant-based chemistry to increase fabric performance while lowering carbon emissions.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are their features?
These trousers are slim-fitting and have stretchy fleece side panels and calves to maximise warmth and mobility, meaning you can move around camp unhindered. Their slim fit also allows you to layer waterproofs over the top, should you need to, and easily accommodate a harness for climbing and mountaineering in below zero temperatures.
A high-rise, stretchy knit waistband manages moisture efficiently and feels comfortable underneath your climbing harness.
One right-thigh pocket with a low-profile zip fastening makes room for small essentials, such as snacks and energy gels.
Each hem has a cuff to cinch in the volume, making these comfortable to wear with chunky shoes and boots.
