What are the Pack Out Hike Tights?
The Pack Out Hike Tights are durable yet comfortable outdoor leggings primarily designed for hill walking and mountain hikes. Thanks to their tough, stretchy, moisture-wicking materials and reinforced design, they're ideal for virtually any adventure off the beaten track.
What are they made of?
The main body of these tights comprises a blend of recycled polyester and elastane double-knit jersey with a wicking finish. This material feels smooth and lightweight against the skin and can wick away moisture to prevent sweat build-up, meaning you won't feel clammy on a humid summer's day. It also has a four-way stretch to increase freedom of movement.
Reinforcement panels on the knees and seat help to increase the lifespan of these leggings; they're made with recycled nylon and recycled elastane, which also offers a four-way stretch and PFC-free DWR to enhance weather resistance—although please note that this doesn't make the panels completely waterproof.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
The fabrics are also bluesign® approved, meaning they're manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are their features?
The reinforcement panels provide exceptional durability and will help decrease the wear-and-tear of these leggings over time.
Two side drop-in pockets and one zipped security pocket provide plenty of options for stowing small essentials, whether a mobile phone, keys, or those all-important trail snacks.
A mid-rise, ribbed waistband offers less abrasion on the skin when backpacking and trekking, and a gusseted crotch delivers extra mobility while taking pressure away from vital seams to help prevent an embarrassing split-trouser moment on the hill! Lastly, flat seams help prevent chafing on the skin when wearing these leggings for long periods.
