What are the Point Peak Trail Pants?
They're durable, long-lasting outdoor trousers designed for hiking and trekking in rugged environments and any weather.
What are they made of?
These trousers are made with recycled nylon and a small amount of elastane double-weave to ensure good freedom of movement and flexibility. This material is exceptionally durable, helping these trousers to last even longer, and has a lower environmental impact due to the high recycled content. It's bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
Patagonia has finished these trousers with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) to enhance weather resistance, although please note that this doesn't make the trousers fully waterproof.
If you were wondering, perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? The brand pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
