What are the Latok GTX Bibs?
The Latok Bibs are the most durable pieces of legwear in Rab's collection, designed for hardcore ascents and demanding winter conditions. Their construction offers excellent freedom of movement, whilst the recycled Gore-Tex® fabric provides ultimate protection from the elements.
What are they made of?
These pants are made primarily using 80D recycled Gore-Tex® Pro 3L Most Breathable, with an added Gore® DWR (Durable Water Repellent) for extra reinforcement. Matrix™ DWS is also integrated into the bib to add more comfort and mobility.
Gore-Tex® Pro 3L Most Breathable is a three layer fabric with added durability, breathability and an extra DWR, designed to withstand abrasion in the toughest terrain. It offers maximum waterproof and windproof protection whilst still being extremely breathable. Thanks to its versatility, it's perfect for mountain use! It can keep you comfortable in changeable environments whilst minimising the accumulation of sweat, keeping you cool during high output activity.
80 denier is a pretty hefty denier for a shell jacket, so you know you can rough it up without worry. It's thick enough for Highland hikes or climbs where it's most likely to take a beating, yet not too heavy or uncomfortable. It has a Hydrostatic Head rating of 28,000mm, which is exceptional for a shell piece.
Gore-Tex® Pro seam taping is used on the inside of the jacket to ensure that no water can seep inside through the stitching. The seam tape lines each seam without adding a lot of bulk or weight - it's unnoticeable once you put the jacket on but makes a huge difference to how protective it is in wet weather!
A Matrix™ DWS (Double Weave Stretch) nylon back in the bib offers more stretch where you need it most. Matrix™ fabrics are chosen explicitly by Rab for their unique performance qualities, and every Matrix™ fabric features a high level (30+) of UV/UPF protection.
What are its features?
These pants' long length bib style offers better coverage than regular trousers. The waist has a dual sided hook and loop adjustment, which allows you to optimise the fit around the body, enabling you to layer effectively without feeling restricted or uncomfortable.
Each side features a full length YKK® AquaGuard VISLON® zip which is easy to use with cold fingers or chunky gloves. AquaGuard zips are taped to enhance their water repellency, helping to prevent water seeping in through the fastening when it's fully zipped.
The knees are articulated, providing a little extra room in vital areas, making those steep ascents feel that little bit easier.
At the hem, you'll find a snap adjuster which can adapt the fit around the ankles to accomodate different sizes and types of hiking or mountaineering boots. They come complete with an internal snow gaiter, perfect for battling gnarly winter conditions. The hems are reinforced with tough crampon patches to reduce the risk of snagging if you catch a crampon on the material as you're moving.
In terms of storage, there is one external thigh pocket with a YKK® AquaGuard zip fastening. The pocket has a bellowed bottom which allows maximum capacity for storage, ideal for stowing away a GPS or some extra snacks and energy gels to keep you going.
How does it fit?
The Latok Bib has a regular fit, which gives you enough room to layer underneath if neccessary, without being too big and bulky to fit extra layers over the top.
