What are the Torque VR Pants?
They're versatile and stretchy softshell trousers ideal for hiking, hill walking, mountaineering and various other outdoor activities in winter. They utilise a combination of a moisture-wicking Vapour-Rise™ lining and a stretchy Matrix™ fabric for a balance of warmth, mobility, and excellent moisture control, making them perfect for fast-paced mountain action.
What are they made from?
Rab has constructed the trousers from their own Matrix™ stretch fabric, with Matrix™ RX reinforcements in high-wear areas and a zoned Vapour-Rise™ lining for the optimum balance of warmth and moisture management.
Matrix™ is a specialised line of softshell fabrics selected by Rab for their unique performance qualities. Matrix™ stretch is a durable double-weave fabric that comprises polyamide and elastane with a soft backer for next-to-skin comfort. This robust softshell fabric is wind-resistant and offers UPF protection to shield you from sun exposure, protecting you from the elements without hindering your range of movement. The material also breathes exceptionally well to aid temperature regulation.
Rab has used Matrix™ RX to reinforce the trousers' knees and kick strips on the inside calf for added durability in high-wear areas. Matrix™ RX is highly durable, comfortable, breathable, and tear-resistant, offering tough protection in rugged environments.
Rab has lined the trousers in a zoned construction with their innovative Vapour-Rise™ lining for reliable warmth, excellent moisture management and wind resistance. This lining is highly effective at regulating your body temperature and excels in challenging environments and varied temperatures, allowing you to push your limits without overheating.
The trousers are finished with a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent). This water-repellent coating offers light protection against rain showers, but it doesn't mean the material is fully waterproof. Using a fluorocarbon-free treatment is considerably more environmentally responsible than regular DWR treatments because they don't use harmful forever chemicals that damage ecosystems and the environment.
What are their features?
The Torque VR Pants feature a comfortable waistband with a double snap waist closure and YKK® zipped fly. The bonded self-fabric belt loops offer flexibility if you prefer wearing a belt and are low profile, so they don't dig in as you move or get in the way of your climbing harness.
Reinforcements across the knees and inside calf provide added durability in high-wear areas, helping these trousers to withstand years of wear in the mountains without looking shabby after your first trip.
Articulated knees provide better freedom of movement at the joints, while a long-length gusset at the crotch helps prevent any embarrassing trouser-splitting incidents when stepping up high.
For storage, there are two zipped hand pockets and one zippered thigh pocket, perfect for tucking away small essentials like a mobile phone, GPS device, energy gels or snack bars.
As previously mentioned, the Torque VR Pants feature zoned fabric lining to optimise warmth in areas vulnerable to wind chill and fast-wicking in those prone to sweating, creating the perfect high-energy winter trousers.
Two zipped mesh-lined thigh vents offer quick and easy ventilation should you start to work up a sweat; you'd be surprised how effective they are at cooling you down.
The Torque VR Pants are constructed in Rab's 'regular' fit, meaning they sit close to the body whilst still allowing space for airflow around the legs or a pair of long johns underneath during winter.
Finally, at the bottom of each leg, you'll find a hem width adjuster with a YKK® zip and self-fabric gusset that allows the trousers to fit over chunky boots easily.
