What is the Shigri Jacket?

The Mountain Equipment Shigri Jacket is a hardwearing Gore-Tex® waterproof jacket for year-round mountain use and multi-activity adventures. It's made with super durable materials and is incredibly versatile.

What is it made of?

The Shigri is constructed using 80D Gore-Tex® with an ePE membrane, a Gore® C-Knit™ backer and an FC-free DWR (durable water repellent).

If you were wondering, ePE stands for expanded polyethene, which is light, thin yet durable, and PFC-free. If you're familiar with Trekitt descriptions, you may have seen that 'PFC-free' phrase floating around before. PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, so this is quite a breakthrough for the Gore-Tex® brand! In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and select textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.

The material itself provides complete waterproof and windproof protection, with ample breathability to prevent sweat and condensation from building up inside, helping regulate body temperature. Overall, it has been rigorously tested to ensure a long-lasting product life, which adds to those eco-friendly credentials, as you won't need to buy a new replacement for a long time, saving energy, resources and waste.

The FC-free DWR encourages water to bead off the material instead of soaking in without the use of forever chemicals. DWR will actually help to enhance breathability and prevent moisture build-up inside.

If your jacket starts to wet out, don't worry! This is normal for waterproofs and simply means it's time for a wash and reapplication of the DWR.

What are its features?

The helmet-compatible Mountain Hood provides ample room for accommodating a climbing helmet, meaning you can double up on protection for technical mountain excursions. It's also fully adjustable thanks to the Cohaesive™ cordlock adjusters.

A seamless face panel provides optimum next-to-skin comfort and reduces rubbing and chafing when worn for longer periods.

This jacket is made with an updated Mountain Fit, which provides room underneath for extra layers, with articulated, pre-shaped sleeves to enhance freedom of movement.

Two large pockets, laminated with Aquaguard® zips for waterproof protection, and a zipped interior pocket provide storage for small essentials such as snacks, energy gels and gloves.

The two-way, centre-front Aquaguard® zip provides easy access to a climbing harness and ventilation when required. There are also underarm pit zips, both Aquaguard® with a laminated and bonded entry, that you can unzip for additional airflow.

Lastly, the adjustable, laminated cuffs allow you to accommodate chunky gloves or smart watches and feel comfortable for day-long wear.
