What is the Resolve XT Hoodie?
It's a windproof and water-resistant down jacket constructed with Gore-Tex Windstopper and high-quality duck down to provide an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. It's also highly breathable and ideal for fast-paced mountain adventures and winter belaying when temperatures are low.
Despite its mountain intentions, the Resolve XT has a clean and versatile aesthetic, making it well suited to both outdoor and everyday use, commuting to work, walking the dog, or walking to the pub on cold wintry evenings.
What is it made from?
Insulation: Filled with 200g of HyperDRY™ duck down, this jacket provides maximum insulation and warmth for exposed mountain activity. The down has a fill power of 750 and is R.D.S certified, reassuring you that it has come from sustainable, ethical sources.
HyperDRY™ down is down insulation that has been treated to add water repellency. The treatment is PFC free, makes the insulation up to 40 times more hydrophobic than untreated down and four times faster drying. HyperDRY™ treatments also use 25 times less water and five times less chemistry to achieve the same level of performance as conventional methods.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 750 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 750 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from light rain or sweat that may build up inside the jacket during intense mountain activity. PFC-free Hydrophobic finishes like HyperDRY™ are not fluorinated and therefore don't cause damage to the environment like previously used fluorinated treatments - an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers
Outer: Surrounding the insulation is a 30D Gore-Tex Windstopper. Which, as you've probably guessed, is a specialised fabric that offers complete windproof protection without compromising weight and overall bulk. It helps prevent wind chill, which can hugely impact body temperature when exploring cold climates, yet is breathable enough to wick away moisture through the membrane effectively. It's also highly water-resistant for added protection from the elements.
Lining: The inner fabric is a PEAQ 20D lining that is made from 100% recycled Nylon. It feels supremely comfortable next to the skin and is highly breathable.
Both the outer and lining fabrics are finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to encourage rain and snow to bead off the material. Much like the insulations HyperDRY™ finish, this treatment is free from forever chemicals that cause damage to the environment. This DWR treatment makes the jacket highly water resistant, but it doesn't make the jacket fully waterproof.
What are its features?
This Resolve XT has a stitch-through midi baffle construction. Midi baffle constructions use less stitching than narrow baffles, improving heat retention as there are fewer holes in the material because less stitching is required. Stitch-through baffles also help prevent down migration as the down stays inside each individual baffle, giving an even spread of warmth throughout.
A fully adjustable hood protects you from the elements and lets you easily cinch it close to the face to shield you from harsh winds. The inner collar has a soft tricot lining that adds to the hood's snug feeling, helping to keep you cosy on more exposed routes or in harsher conditions. A reinforced peak to the top of the hood helps to keep the rain away from your face by providing a little extra coverage above the forehead.
The jacket features a two-way YKK® Vislon® front zip, which offers plenty of ventilation options. Two-way zips are great for technical or steep ascents as they give you the option to unzip the bottom half for more flexibility around the waist and hips.
For storage, two zipped hand pockets are ideal for keeping hill snacks easily accessible or warming up your hands if you've forgotten your gloves. These pockets feel nice and roomy and are strategically positioned so they are accessible whilst using a climbing harness. There's also a zipped internal chest pocket to stow away more valuable belongings like a mobile phone, keys or GPS device.
The cuffs are pre-elasticated, offering improved freedom of movement around the wrists for technical manoeuvres or handling kit. Elasticated cuffs also help keep the heat in by drawing the material closer to the skin when it's not being stretched out.
An adjustable drawcord hem allows you to cinch in excess material and adapt the fit to suit your activity, sealing out the elements and keeping warm air inside the jacket.
How does it fit?
The Resolve XT is created with Montane's mountain fit, which is cut to provide a little extra room for additional functional layers while sitting close enough to the body to perform well as an insulating layer.
