What is the ROC Flash Down Jacket?
It's an updated version of Haglofs' popular ROC Down Jacket. Designed for versatile use both on and off the mountain, this lightweight, warm, insulated jacket utilises Pertex® Quantum fabrics, H DOWN Gold premium insulation, and clever offset baffles for fantastic, reliable performance in the unpredictable British weather.
What is it made from?
The ROC Flash Down Jacket is constructed from lightweight Pertex® Quantum ripstop and is predominantly filled with Haglofs H DOWN Gold 700FP insulation. With Mimic Silver recycled sheet insulation in areas prone to chafing. All fabrics used in the ROC Flash are responsibly made from recycled materials and are bluesign® approved for added reassurance.
Insulation: Haglofs has filled the jacket with fully traceable 700-fill power H DOWN Gold, which is premium quality down with a 85% down, 15% feather ratio for optimum warmth to weight. The down is treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR to help the down retain its thermal performance even in humid conditions and to help speed up drying time if it does get wet.
The hydrophobic treatment gives a water-resistant coating to each individual down cluster, enabling the insulation to stay dry for up to 5,000 minutes when exposed to wet conditions. Pretty impressive! However, if the forecast predicts heavy downpours, we recommend packing a waterproof shell for extra protection.
The jacket also uses Mimic Silver sheet insulation for added durability in areas prone to high wear and chafing. Mimic Silver is Haglof's fantastic synthetic insulation that's made from 100% recycled polyester, which is more robust than natural down, making it more resistant to compression from wearing a backpack whilst still being highly thermal efficient, even when wet - making it the ideal choice to reinforce high wear areas.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
Traceable - Track My Down is a portal that can be accessed through SourceTRACK™ to learn about the fill used in your individual jacket. It allows you to find the source region of the down, verified third-party tested final fill power, cleanliness, content analysis and links to reports and certificates. To access this information, you will find a SourceTRACK™ lot number printed on the garment's hang tag, which you can enter into the Track My Down website.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from light rain or sweat and condensation that may build up inside the jacket during intense mountain activity. PFC-free Hydrophobic finishes like HyperDRY™ are not fluorinated and therefore don't cause damage to the environment like previously used fluorinated treatments.
Outer and lining: The ROC Flash's outer shell and lining are constructed from lightweight, ripstop recycled Pertex® Quantum to deliver the perfect balance of performance and durability. The outer uses a slightly thicker 30-denier fabric for added durability and a clean, smooth finish, while the lining uses a lighter-weight 20-denier material for optimum breathability and comfort.
Pertex® Quantum provides a lightweight, soft feel and helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping still air. It's 100% recycled yet still has a fantastic level of performance, providing effective windproof protection and optimised heat retention. This incredibly lightweight yet durable material uses tightly woven yarns of recycled polyamide to protect you from wind and light rain. The material is exceptionally breathable and highly packable, making it ideal for slightly more intense activities such as mountaineering and climbing, when you may be layering and de-layering more frequently and will need to pack the jacket away.
The jacket is finished with a PFC-free DWR coating (durable water repellent), which encourages light rain or snow to bead off the fabric. Just like the Hydrophobic treatment, PFC-free DWR is much more responsible than regular water-repellent treatments, as it doesn't use harmful forever chemicals that cause damage to the environment and ecosystems.
What are its features?
Starting at the top, a fully insulated high collar offers warmth and protection from the elements. The ROC Flash features an offset baffle construction that helps maximise the down's loft and minimise the chance of cold spots forming over time. This clever construction also keeps the jacket's pack size to a minimum while adding a stylish and technical aesthetic, helping it stand out from the crowd of traditional skinny baffle jackets.
A two-way front zippered closure with an insulated placket provides versatile ventilation options, freedom of movement for the hips on steep inclines and functionality for ease of use with a climbing harness.
For storage, you'll find two zippered hand pockets and one internal chest pocket ideal for securely stowing your cold-weather essentials, such as gloves, beanie, keys, mobile phone and trail snacks. The ROC Flash features chunky zip pulls throughout the jacket for ease of use whilst wearing gloves and mittens, reducing the time spent faffing so you can enjoy every moment of your time outdoors.
A dropped hem to the rear provides added coverage across the back to prevent cold winds and snow from getting in whilst bending or crouching down. Elasticated cuffs and an adjustable hem help trap warm air inside the jacket and further seal the elements out. The cuffs are hidden for a cleaner aesthetic, and the bottom hem is filled with down to further reduce heat loss.
