What is the Shelterstone Jacket?
Mountain Equipment has designed the Shelterstone Jacket to provide all-round protection and insulation for challenging winter weather and technical activities like mountaineering or climbing. It offers a fantastic level of water resistance and is filled with effective synthetic insulation to provide maximum warmth, even in damp conditions, making it suitable as a general winter jacket too!
What is it made of?
The Shelterstone has an outer made with Mountain Equipment's own Drilite Loft fabric. Drilite Loft is an extremely tough, windproof and highly water-resistant fabric. It has been treated with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent (DWR) to help water bead up and run off. Still, even though the fabric is incredibly weather resistant, it is not 100% waterproof, so if you get stuck in a total downpour, you'll need to layer a shell jacket over the top.
The jacket's lining is made of recycled polyamide (nylon) that is lightweight, smooth and highly durable to withstand regular wear and filled with Polarloft® sheet insulation that provides exceptional warmth, even in damp conditions. It's made of recycled polyester, and unlike down, it retains heat when wet, making this the perfect piece for UK winters where the weather constantly changes!
What are its features?
This jacket has an insulated mountain hood with a helmet compatible fit to give you maximum protection and wamth on exposed rock routes. It's fully adjustable, so with or without a helmet, you'll be able to adapt the fit and get it just right.
There's a two-way YKK® moulded centre front zip on the front to help reduce ice build-up, with an insulated baffle running behind to prevent a cold spot from developing at the entry.
For storage, there's a chest pocket and two zipped hand pockets with insulated overlays, perfect for snacks, energy gels or keeping your hands warm when you've forgotten your gloves. There are also two internal pockets - one large mesh pocket and one zipped security pocket for more valuable items such as a mobile phone, keys or GPS device.
Cuffs are adjustable, allowing you to change the fit for wearing chunky gloves or mitts, and so is the hem, which can be cinched in using the dual tether drawcords.
