What is the Infinity Microlight Jacket?
The Rab Infinity Microlight Jacket uses a combination of Gore-Tex Infinium fabrics and recycled down to give you a jacket that will keep you warm and protected whilst you’re out adventuring. It’s the ideal jacket in changeable conditions for hill walkers looking for maximum warmth with high levels of breathability and protection from all but the worst of the weather.
Rab have used the new Gore-Tex Infinium membrane to protect the down from the elements, and whilst this does not make the Infinity 100% waterproof, it does make it incredibly breathable and to be honest, you’d have to try pretty damn hard to get wet in this jacket
What is it made of?
Insulation: Let's start with the beating heart of the Infinity Microlight Jacket, the insulation. Rab have used 146g of 700 Fill Power, Hydrophobic Recycled Down in a stitch through construction to maximum the down’s ability to loft.
Ok, let’s break that down:
146g – Physical weight of all the natural down inside the Infinity jacket.
700 Fill Power – Rab grade down according to the size of the clusters, that is the amount of air that the down can trap relative to its weight. They take 1 gram of fully fluffed up or “lofted” down and record its volume, the resulting number represents the down’s “Fill power”. So, for this jacket, 1 gram of down “lofts” to fill 700 cubic inches; or around 11.5 litres if you’re familiar with rucksack capacity.
Hydrophobic - Each and every cluster of down has been treated with special Nikwax Hydrophobic treatment to ensure they resist moisture, retain more heat, loft better, and dry much quicker than untreated down. The hydrophobic treatment means that a down jacket will perform better in wet conditions, but it’s not intended to make a garment waterproof.
Recycled Down – 100% recycled from post-consumer waste.
Stitch-through construction – This jacket uses a combination of stitch through construction which helps cut down on weight and increases packability, with technically advanced 'switch-back' seam construction on the body to reduce water ingress
Surrounding all this luxurious insulation is the new 13D Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper membrane. This new membrane provides complete wind-proofing, high levels of breathability and excellent weather resistance. Technically this membrane isn't 100% waterproof, but in practice we've found that only prolonged torrential rain will eventually seep through.
What are the features?
Starting at the top of the jacket you get an adjustable helmet compatible hood with stiffened peak to help seal out the elements. The YKK Vislon front zip has an insulated storm flap behind it to minimise heat escaping. Storage wise you get a YKK concealed zip chest pocket and two YKK VISLON zipped hand pockets – perfect for stashing you phone, compass and keys! To further seal out the elements you get a hem drawcord and a stretch panel cuff for optimum fit.
How does it fit?
The Infinity Microlight features Rabs ‘Slim fit’ fit block which sits a bit snugger than Rabs ‘Regular Fit’. It still has some wiggle room underneath so you can fit an extra couple of layers underneath on those extra chilly days.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
The Infinity is designed to be your outer layer in extremely cold and damp conditions. Thanks to the Gore Infinium membrane, Hydrophobic Down and protective outer fabric, you're unlikely to ever need to wear a shell jacket over the top.
