What is the Mythic Alpine Jacket?

The Mythic Alpine is a top quality down jacket that not only feels fantastic, but looks it too! It's perfect for Alpine adventures (of course) and expeditions when you want something super warm, lightweight and low bulk, allowing easy pack up and comfortable layering when you need it.

To give you an idea, we’d say this jacket is warmer than the Rab Neutrino Pro, so it’s a pretty hardcore piece to add to your winter wardrobe!

What is it made of?

The Mythic Alpine Jacket is constructed using high quality, 900 fill power down insulation, encased in a 10D Recycled Pertex® Quantum Nylon Ripstop on both the outer shell and lining.

Insulation: The jacket uses 900 fill power, R.D.S Certified European Goose Down, offering maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.

European Goose Down is fantastic quality down - it has larger clusters than Duck Down which improves the warmth to weight ratio. These clusters are made up of tiny feather strands that trap heat, which is why it's so important to get a quality jacket with a construction that allows its insulation to loft effectively!

The down is treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself.

Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.

Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 900 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 900 cubic inches of space when fully lofted. For a full explanation, you can check out our YouTube video on fill power by clicking here.

R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.

Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat that may build up as you're warming up inside the jacket. Fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - a bonus for more eco-conscious adventurers.

Outer Shell & Lining: The lining uses 10D Recycled Pertex® Quantum, which contains incredibly fine yarns and has a tight weave to create a soft, windproof layer that helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping more warm air inside.

The outer shell is coated in a fluorocarbon free Durable Water Repellent (DWR), which creates a light water resistance, helping to protect the down further. Similar to the Hydrophobic finishes, fluorocarbon free DWR's are much more sustainable than regular treatments, as they do not use any chemicals that harm the environment

What are its features?

The construction of the jacket uses lightweight, zoned stitch-through baffles that help to stabilise the down, preventing it from moving and spreading unevenly.

Despite the coat being so warm, it doesn't feel too chunky when it's being worn - so there's no need to worry about resembling the Michelin Man as you venture outdoors. The low bulk helps increase mobility and freedom of movement, as you feel less 'trapped in', making the Mythic Alpine a really versatile piece to add to your winter wardrobe!

It looks super sleek and fashionable - you could wear it as a cosy everyday jacket if you're looking for something more practical, or if you live further up North...

The hood is filled with down insulation to keep your tabs from feeling the chill, with a part elasticated opening that offers extra flexibility as you move whilst providing additional comfort. At the top of the hood, you'll find a lightweight stiffened peak, which protects your face a little more when the heavens open.

At the front, a YKK® VISLON® zip fastens the jacket, which is really smooth and easy to use with gloves, or numb fingers if you came a little less prepared. At the top of the zip, a fleece lined chin guard continues into the hood - it feels super soft and silky on your face, giving a really luxurious feel.

The sleeves don't feel restrictive at all on the Mythic Alpine. They are precurved and articulated, helping them bend more naturally with the arm and flex when moving. Cuffs are elasticated to provide a slight stretch around the wrists, great for mobility when tackling technical terrain or scrambling on an incline. The elastic feels really light yet helps pull the cuffs taut to keep out drafts, retain warmth and lessen bulk, allowing you to layer a shell over the top in wet conditions.

Two hand pockets come in super handy if you're a big snacker - they easily fit energy gels, small bags of trail mix, or flapjacks in, depending on how much of a feast you're planning. If you're a little less greedy, you should also have some extra space for valuables like a wallet, GPS or mobile phone, all secured inside with a reliable YKK® concealed zip.

Dual sided rear hem adjustments allow you to cinch in the jacket around the hips - perfect to keep the weather out and optimise the overall fit. The adjustments feature an anti-snag tether which is more durable to withstand a beating on longer expeditions or in rougher climates.

How does it fit?

The Mythic Alpine comes in a slim fit. This sits closer to the body without feeling restrictive or tight. A slim fit helps to maximise warmth and is also beneficial if you want to add more layers over the top of the jacket (for example, a shell jacket).

Features:

  • Lightweight zoned stitch-through construction for optimum warmth and down stabilisation
  • Down-filled hood with part elasticated opening and stiffened peak
  • Lightweight YKK® VISLON® centre front zip with fleece lined chin guard for comfort
  • Precurved and articulated sleeves for improved fit and movement
  • 2 YKK® concealed zipped hand pockets
  • Part elasticated cuffs for optimum fit and reduced bulk
  • Dual sided rear hem adjustment with anti snag tether
