What is the Nebula Pro Jacket?
It's an updated version of Rab's popular Nebula Pro Jacket. The update includes a fresh design and new PrimaLoft® Silver Rise synthetic insulation.
The Nebula Pro looks and feels a lot like a down jacket and even performs extremely similarly. However, the main difference is the Nebula features fully recycled synthetic insulation and fabrics, making it a brilliant jacket for our typically wet and cold UK mountain conditions, whilst being a more environmentally responsible choice too!
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Nebula Pro uses 262g of PrimaLoft® Silver Rise synthetic insulation made from 100% recycled polyamide from post-consumer recycled material. PrimaLoft® Silver Rise is lightweight and highly durable insulation with a unique construction that allows it to resist compression. It boasts an impressive warmth-to-weight ratio comparable to high-quality natural down without any of the faff, making it a great vegan alternative to down that can still perform even when wet.
Outer and lining: The outer and lining are constructed from Pertex Quantum, which is made from recycled polyamide. The outer uses a slightly thicker 30-denier fabric for added durability and a clean, smooth finish, while the lining uses a lighter-weight 20-denier material for optimum breathability and next-to-skin comfort.
Pertex Quantum is an incredibly lightweight yet durable material that will protect you from wind and light rain. It's also exceptionally breathable and highly packable, making it ideal for slightly more intense activities such as mountaineering and climbing, when you may be layering and de-layering more frequently and will need to pack the jacket away.
This material is coated in a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent) to allow light rain and snow to bead and roll off the surface. However, please note that this does not make the jacket waterproof.
What are its features?
The Nebula Pro features a fully helmet-compatible hood that allows you to slip a climbing helmet underneath comfortably. It includes all the necessary adjustment points to cinch the hood down even when you're not wearing a helmet. The hood also features a stiffened peak to keep rain and snow away from your face so you can focus on the task at hand.
The jacket is fastened with a two-way front zip with an insulated zip baffle to help prevent heat loss and a fleece-lined chin guard to avoid any discomfort around the face when fully zipped. The jacket can be unzipped from the lower or upper of the jacket, meaning it will fit over a climbing harness when belaying.
For storage, you'll find two concealed zipped hand pockets for your essentials and an inner security chest pocket ideal for more valuable belongings or items that you want to keep out of the cold, such as a mobile phone or car keys. The chest pocket doubles as an integrated storage pocket, allowing the jacket to be packed down when not in use so that it will take up less space in your backpack. This integrated storage pocket also has a clip-in-loop for attaching to a harness or outer pack with a carabiner. YKK® zippers are used throughout for smooth and easy operation.
Elasticated gussets at the cuffs with hook and loop closure provide the optimal fit over chunky gloves and bare hands. A dual-sided mitt-friendly hem adjustment with an anti-snag tether helps trap warm air inside the jacket, keeping you warm and comfortable even when popping it on over bulky layers.
