What is the Cirrus Alpine Jacket?
It's an update to Rab's popular Cirrus Alpine Jacket. This synthetically insulated jacket is warmer than previous versions and is ideal for various outdoor and everyday adventures in cold conditions, including year-round alpine use.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Cirrus Alpine uses 191g of PrimaLoft® Silver Rise synthetic insulation for impressive warmth, which is made from 100% recycled polyamide from post-consumer recycled material. PrimaLoft® Silver Rise is lightweight and highly durable insulation with a unique construction that allows it to resist compression. It boasts an impressive warmth-to-weight ratio comparable to high-quality natural down without any of the faff, making it a great vegan-friendly alternative to down that can still perform even when wet.
Outer and lining: The jacket's outer and lining are constructed from Pertex Quantum, which is made from recycled polyamide. The outer uses a slightly thicker 30-denier fabric for added durability and a clean, smooth finish, while the lining uses a lighter-weight 20-denier material for optimum breathability and comfort.
Pertex Quantum is an incredibly lightweight yet durable material that will protect you from wind and light rain. It's also exceptionally breathable and highly packable, making it ideal for slightly more intense activities such as mountaineering and climbing, when you may be layering and de-layering more frequently and will need to pack the jacket away.
This material is coated in a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent) to allow light rain and snow to bead and roll off the surface. However, please note that this does not make the jacket waterproof.
What are its features?
The Cirrus Alpine features an adjustable insulated hood that offers protection from the elements, whilst the hood's stiffened peak helps to keep rain and snow away from the face.
The jacket is fastened with a centre front zip with an insulated zip baffle to help prevent heat loss through the zip and a fleece-lined chin guard to avoid any discomfort around the face when fully zipped.
For storage, you'll find two zipped hand pockets for your trail essentials and an inner security chest pocket ideal for more valuable belongings or items that you want to keep out of the cold, such as a mobile phone or car keys. The chest pocket doubles as an integrated storage pocket, allowing the jacket to be stuffed in the pocket when not in use so that it will take up less space in your backpack. This integrated storage pocket also has a clip-in-loop for attaching to a harness or outside of your pack with a carabiner. YKK® zippers are used throughout for smooth and easy operation.
Elasticated gussets at the cuffs provide the optimal fit over chunky gloves and bare hands. A dual-sided hem adjustment with an anti-snag tether helps trap warm air inside the jacket, keeping you warm and comfortable even when popping it on over bulky layers.
