What is the Spitz GTX Pro Jacket?

If you're looking for a protective, hardwearing, waterproof shell jacket for use on and off the mountain, then look no further.

The Spitz GTX Pro is a mountain-ready, breathable jacket that combines high performance with reliable weather protection and great freedom of movement. It's been created for reliable protection from the elements for challenging mountain ascents, ski-touring, climbing and outdoor adventures in adverse conditions. It uses Gore-Tex Pro for complete weather protection and even features a RECCO® reflector in the hood for added avalanche safety, just in case.

What is it made from?

Outer: The Spitz GTX Pro's outer fabric is constructed from a mixed-body map of durable ripstop fabrics, both created from 100% polyamide. Reinforcements to the shoulders, sleeves, back and hip sections are made from tough plain weave polyamide fabric with a pro grid backer for excellent durability, allowing the jacket to easily withstand a beating from rugged mountainsides whilst climbing and negotiating technical terrain. These durable face fabrics are then treated with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) for enhanced water resistance.

If you were wondering, PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), used to add water repellent to textiles, aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via water waste from factories, they stay out there and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a greener manufacturing process.

Membrane: For waterproof protection, the jacket uses a Gore-Tex Pro membrane. Gore-Tex Pro comes with the classic 'Guaranteed To Keep You Dry' promise; it provides fantastic waterproof and windproof protection for the most challenging conditions, whether torrential wind and rain or harsh snow. Gore-Tex Pro pulls out all the stops, being the most rugged Gore-Tex product available, and not only is it incredibly durable, it offers the highest level of breathability to enhance temperature regulation and moisture management.

What are its features?

Starting from the top, a 3-way adjustable hood with a reinforced, laminated peak protects you from harsh wind and rain. It's fully compatible with a climbing helmet and features a RECCO® reflector for searchability, increasing your safety tenfold if you're caught up in an avalanche. A RECCO® reflector is part of a two-part system that enables rapid, directional pinpointing of your precise location with a harmonic radar, helping you feel more protected during extreme activities.

Two large Napoleon chest pockets provide ample storage for guidebooks, spare gloves and trail snacks. The pockets are bellowed on the outside to allow you to easily store your essentials without restricting the fit or movement of the jacket during technical climbs and tricky traverses.

A zipped outer lower sleeve pockets allow you to keep energy gels, additional snacks and your ski pass close to hand. A zipped inner chest pocket provides a secure home for more valuable items such as a mobile phone and GPS device, so you don't have to worry about losing them out on the mountain.

It can be easy to start working up a sweat during intense, technical ascents, even in cold weather. Venting pit zips underneath the arms allow you to embrace that cool breeze and get some extra ventilation if you're working up a sweat.

A simple two-way zipped closure to the front of the jacket is compatible with a climbing harness for versatile use. Two-way zips are great for technical or steep ascents, as they give you the option to unzip the bottom half for more flexibility around the waist and hips.

The Spitz GTX Pro uses laminated water-repellent zippers throughout to protect you and your belongings from getting wet during heavy downpours.

Finally, strategic reinforcements to the shoulders, sleeves, back and hip sections provide added durability in high-wear areas, allowing this jacket to withstand a bashing from rocky mountainsides and hold up to frequent use with a backpack.
