What is the Ascendor 28?
The Ascendor 28 is a 28 litre do-it-all pack, perfect for summer days out at the crag, indoor climbs, and scrambling through the mountains. It has plenty of storage options for various kit, climbing gear and extra clothing, a close-fitting back system and a robust, partly recycled construction that can withstand heavy usage and challenging conditions.
What is it made of?
Rab has used a combination of materials to construct this pack. It contains a mix of 35% recycled Robic Trishield Dura, Hydroshield and 50% Recycled Mesh Dobby. This combination creates a tough, durable face that can withstand rock and abrasion well. It feels soft and smooth, offers more flexibility for comfort and convenience and can withstand exposed conditions better, resisting discolouration from the sun and wear that may usually occur from heavy use.
Which backsystem does it use?
The Ascendor 28 uses a Tri-Flex™ carry system with a fixed back length and removable support.
The Tri-Flex™ carry system is designed with a moulded, snow shedding back panel that feels light and comfortable when the pack is mounted. The length of the back is fixed, reducing the weight and bulk of the overall design and measuring 19 inches long.
What are the features?
For a relatively small pack, the Ascendor 28 is still crammed full of features! The main compartment is fastened with a zipped top loader entry. The lid of this pack can also be used to stow away smaller items that you may want to access quickly, such as a GPS, guidebook or snacks.
When the pack is loaded, you can cinch in extra space using the top tensioner or upper and lower side compression straps. There are a variety of gear attachments to suit different types of kit, including two Headlocker ice axe attachments with removable lashes and a front daisy chain and rear rope strap. There's also an A-Frame ski carry option to suit multi-activity days out in the mountains or on the slopes.
Being hydration compatible, you can easily fit a hydration bladder up to three litres in capacity, saving you the space and weight of bulky water bottles.
The carry system has various adaptations and adjustments to optimise the fit and comfort of the pack. A sternum strap pulls the load closer to the body, helping it stop wobbling as you move. A small safety whistle is attached to the strap for easy access in an emergency, where you may need to attract attention quickly. If you're unsure, the universal signal that you are in danger and need help is three long blows on your whistle.
A waistbelt helps draw the bottom of the pack closer to the back, distributing the weight more easily to promote better balance and support. You can also remove the waistbelt to lessen bulk and weight, if you dislike using it or find it uncomfortable.
