What is the Tempest 44?
The Tempest is a 44-litre outdoor backpack best suited to multi-day adventures, such as backpacking, hiking, and trekking.
What is it made of?
The main body is made using high-tenacity nylon with a triple ripstop. This fabric is incredibly durable and abrasion-resistant, allowing it to survive regular use in rugged terrain.
The Tempest's base and liner are made with 420HD nylon packcloth, which is incredibly durable. Thus, this backpack will likely last a lifetime.
All of these materials are 100% recycled, and bluesign® approved. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and that the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
All materials are also treated with PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent), encouraging light rain and snow to bead off the material instead of soaking in. PFAS-free treatments avoid the use of harmful 'forever' chemicals. PFAS is a toxic chemical known to harm humans and the environment. It was previously commonly used in DWR treatments; however, many outdoor companies are now working to eliminate these chemicals from their production lines to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
What backsystem does it have?
The Tempest backpack has an Airscape backpanel, which uses an injection-moulded AirScape framesheet with die-cut foam. This backpanel provides a close-to-the-body, stable fit and is incredibly flexible to amplify comfort and freedom of movement. It uses ventilated airflow channels for active users, helping to prevent sweat build-up, and a mesh-covered foam lumbar for lightweight comfort.
It also uses a BioStretch harness, which features integrated BioStretch seams (stretchy seams) that maximise flexibility without sacrificing stability for dynamic movement in technical terrain.
Spacermesh over die-cut foam on the harness and hipbelt provide a breathable, comfortable contact surface that manages temperature regulation efficiently.
The hipbelt also features the Crossbody ErgoPull system that helps to pull the lumbar into the body and a LightWire peripheral suspension frame for improved weight distribution to help prevent lower back pains, discomfort, or injury.
You can easily adjust the harness to fit your torso length, plus the sternum strap to help keep the pack stable.
A seamless lumbar-to-hip-belt body wrap and additional BioStretch seams provide further flexibility.
What are the features?
The floating lid with a zipped slash pocket provides extra organisation and weather protection for the main entry point. You can access the main compartment using the top-load access point or via the full-length vertical side zip. Under the lid, you'll find a zipped mesh pocket with a key clip, that works perfectly for valuables and keys.
You also get a large front panel pocket, dual-entry stretchy side pockets, an expandable harness pocket, and dual hipbelt pockets that work perfectly for trail snacks and energy gels.
This pack has an external hydration sleeve for those who prefer using a hydration reservoir instead of chunky water bottles for hands-free sipping.
If you're adventuring during winter, you may be pleased to hear that there are tuck-away ice axe attachments with bungee tie-offs; these attachments safely store ice axes while helping prevent them from piercing your backpack on the move.
Stow-on-the-go trekking pole attachments provide storage for your walking poles when not being used.
This backpack features zipped sleeping bag storage and removable sleeping pad straps for attaching and carrying bulky items for multi-day treks, backpacking, and camping.
Important Leave No Trace principles are printed on the label inside the main compartment, reminding you to leave your campsite as you found it and keep precious landscapes clean.
Lastly, upper and lower-side compression straps will cinch in dead space when the bag isn't fully packed to help prevent your belongings from rattling around inside.
