What are the Soloist Finger Gloves?
The Soloist Gloves are go-to gloves for winter alpine adventuring and climbing in harsh and technical environments. They provide ample waterproof protection and warmth, with incredible durability to handle ropes continuously and endure heavy use in jagged, rocky terrain.
What are they made of?
Shell: The outer layer of these gloves comprises 100% recycled materials with added elastane for stretch. This layer is durable yet lightweight, and treated with GTT Empel DWR (durable water repellent), which provides superior performance and durability compared to standard PFC-free finishes. Green Theme Technologies (GTT) Empel™ DWR takes a much more sustainable approach to water-repellent treatments, being completely free of water, palm oil and PFC pollutants to lessen its environmental impact.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
Insert: A BD.dry™ insert provides ample protection against heavy rain or snow. Though completely waterproof, BD.dry™ is also windproof, helping to prevent windchill so your fingers aren't going cold or numb, and breathable, increasing comfort by regulating temperature and helping prevent sweat build-up inside. Stretch has been implemented into the insert to enhance freedom of movement and dexterity for handling kit.
Liner: The liner contains two different types of insulation - PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation with CrossCore technology and PrimaLoft® Gold with Grip Control.
Primaloft® Gold with Crosscore technology is a woven synthetic insulation. It is the Gold standard of Primaloft™ insulation, providing the ultimate level of warmth compared to other fibres. The technically advanced fibres are infused with Aerogel technology, which is used by NASA and acclaimed for its ultra-lightweight yet ultra-insulative properties.
PrimaLoft® Gold with Grip Control performs similarly, providing exceptional heat levels, even when wet, yet has added slip resistance to help give you more grip under the hand.
Sandwiching the insulation together is a recycled fleece that feels soft and comfy enough to wear all day long.
Reinforcements: Goat leather is added to the palms to increase longevity for rugged terrain; it provides more resistance against rope handling and jagged rock whilst protecting the skin on the palms from damage.
What are their features?
To be honest, the materials are what make the Soloist Finger Gloves so technical! Otherwise, they have a standard fit and a long gauntlet cuff that helps to keep spindrift and moisture on the outside.
The shell and liner are constructed in two parts, meaning you can remove the shell layer from the liner, doubling up nicely as a lighter-weight protective glove for milder conditions.
A split-finger design provides more dexterity for your index finger when handling gear and equipment.
