What is the M10 Storm Jacket?
The M10 Storm Jacket is a lightweight, slim-fitting, waterproof jacket with a completely PFC-free construction. It's best suited to climbing and challenging adventures and is made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory®.
What is it made of?
This jacket is constructed using PFC-free H2No® Performance Standard Shell, which comprises a three-layer 100% Econyl® recycled nylon ripstop with a knit backer and a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent).
H2No® is Patagonia's very own performance standard, which is defined by years of material testing. It sets a benchmark for waterproofness, breathability, and durability to ensure that this shell jacket will perform for life (as long as you look after it properly, of course).
Econyl® is a 100% recycled material with similar properties to nylon, ensuring it's durable enough to survive outdoor use. This material offers a more responsible solution to longer-lasting materials than conventional nylon and is made from old fishing nets, waste carpets, and other abandoned textiles.
As mentioned, the material is completely PFC-free and impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), which adds to its water resistance and encourages light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? The brand pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are its features?
The adjustable hood allows for cinching around the head, helping to keep the heat in and ensuring a precise fit around beanie hats, midlayers or climbing helmets.
A two-way zip makes for easy on-and-off and allows you to unzip from the bottom, making room for a harness without compromising protection.
The jacket's cut sits close to the body and provides plenty of room around the shoulders to enhance freedom of movement for tricky ascents. A slightly longer length helps prevent the jacket from rising too high when stretching your arms upward, keeping you well-shielded throughout your entire adventure.
Zipped pockets on the chest provide easy access to small essentials like snacks, energy gels and gloves.
A built-in RECCO® reflector increases your safety tenfold by making you more searchable to rescuers in worst-case scenarios, without the need for power or manual activation and without adding weight or bulk to the product. RECCO® technology was initially designed in response to an avalanche tragedy and launched in 1983. It's a two-part system that enables rapid, directional pinpointing of your precise location with a harmonic radar, helping you feel more protected during extreme activities in remote environments.
