What is the Triolet Jacket?
It's a durable waterproof jacket designed for cold, snowy alpine and mountain activities, such as climbing, mountaineering and hiking.
Thanks to the built-in Gore-Tex® technology, this jacket provides exceptional protection and breathability.
What is it made of?
Patagonia has built this jacket using three-layer, 100% recycled polyester Gore-Tex® ePE with a tricot backer and a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). Quite a mouthful, right? Let's break that down.
Gore-Tex® ePE - This updated Gore® material uses an ePE membrane, a key milestone in the leading brand's responsible performance journey. If you were wondering, ePE stands for Expanded Polyethene, which is light and thin yet durable and PFC-free.
If you're familiar with Trekitt descriptions, you may have seen that 'PFC-free' phrase floating around before. PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals', that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, so this is quite a breakthrough for the Gore-Tex® brand! In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and select textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.
The membrane itself provides complete waterproof and windproof protection, with ample breathability to prevent sweat and condensation from building up inside, helping regulate body temperature. Overall, it has been rigorously tested to ensure a long-lasting product life, which adds to those eco-friendly credentials, as you won't need to buy a replacement jacket for a long time, saving energy, resources and waste.
Tricot backer—The tricot backer provides a smoother finish on the inside of the jacket, increasing comfort and making it easier to slide the Triolet over other layers when necessary without adding excessive weight.
PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) - A DWR encourages rain and light snow to bead off the face fabric instead of soaking in and causing the jacket to 'wet out'. This enhances the material's breathability, ensuring moisture or condensation doesn't build up inside, leaving you feeling clammy and uncomfortable.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are its features?
The helmet-compatible hood has a laminated visor and a reinforced brim that effectively sheds water instead of allowing it to build up and weigh the material down. A two-way hood adjuster also improves visibility in poor conditions, with or without a helmet, while cinching in gaps and sealing the weather out.
Two Napoleon chest pockets with watertight zips and zipper garages are ideal for snacks and energy gels. Two welted front pockets are strategically placed to stay accessible even when wearing a harness, plus an additional interior drop-in pocket makes room for keeping gloves protected and within reach.
Watertight, welted two-way pit zips provide ventilation and reach without raising the jacket's body, keeping you cool when working hard.
Low-profile cuffs use a tapered tab hook-and-loop closure, which allows you to cinch in the material around the wrists, even when wearing smartwatches and chunky gloves.
A dual-adjust drawcord hem seals the weather out further for additional protection, helping to improve body temperature regulation.
The built-in RECCO reflector increases your safety tenfold by making you more searchable to rescuers in worst-case scenarios, without the need for power or manual activation and without adding weight or bulk to the product. RECCO® technology was initially designed in response to an avalanche tragedy and launched in 1983. It's a two-part system that enables rapid, directional pinpointing of your precise location with a harmonic radar, helping you feel more protected during extreme activities in remote environments.
